IB Diploma Programme · Ages 16–19

Two years when
thinking either
deepens or doesn't.

The EE. The TOK Exhibition. The oral assessments. Tark sits alongside DP students as they develop the reasoning capacity those assessments require — before they're in the room.

What changes

Different for every person involved.

Tark touches three audiences in the DP — and each one sees something they couldn't see before.

For the student

Your EE has reasoning behind it.

Not just research. Not just a draft. A record of how your thinking developed — from your first session on the topic to your final argument.

"For the first time I could see where my argument had actually changed — and why."

For the EE supervisor

You arrive prepared. Every time.

Before every check-in, you have something to work from. Not the latest draft — a view of how this student has been reasoning, and what their thinking has left open.

"The quality of our meetings was different from the first one. I knew what to ask."

For the DP coordinator

You can see who needs attention.

Not from grades. Not from gut feel. From a reasoning record that tells you which students are developing intellectual independence — and which need support before their assessments reveal it.

"I could see the students who were going to struggle six months before they submitted."
The experience

Before the EE. Before the draft.

A student forms a position on a genuinely arguable question — before any AI is involved, before any context is given. That position is locked. Then a thinking partner they named themselves challenges it.

The quality of that exchange is what the DP ultimately assesses. Tark is the only place it's practised.

The most important variable in the quality of adolescents' argumentative reasoning is the depth of their understanding of the nature of knowledge itself.

The DP years are when reasoning habits become durable. Research shows this is when students either develop the ability to construct and evaluate knowledge — or they don't. Tark is built around that transition.
